Why It’s Okay to Feel Conflicted
When we talk about difficult relationships, we often want things to be clear-cut. We want there to be a "good guy" and a "bad guy," a right choice and a wrong choice. But real life rarely lives in the black and white. More often, we find ourselves living in the "grey areas."
You might feel a deep sense of love for someone, while simultaneously feeling a deep sense of fear or exhaustion. You might remember the beautiful moments of the past while struggling with the painful reality of the present. If you feel conflicted, please hear this: Your mixed emotions are not a sign of weakness; they are a sign of your humanity.

The Complexity of the Heart
It is possible to hold two opposite truths at the same time. You can:
Love someone’s potential but be hurt by their current actions.
Want to stay and help, but also want to run and hide.
Grieve the loss of the "good times" while recognizing that the "bad times" are no longer sustainable.
This internal tug-of-war is incredibly draining. It can make you feel like you are losing your mind or like you are being "disloyal" to yourself. But feelings are not facts—they are simply reflections of your complex heart. You don't have to "pick a side" within your own emotions to be valid.
Releasing the Guilt of the "Grey"
Many women feel a sense of shame for having positive feelings toward someone who has treated them poorly. They feel they should "know better." But love doesn't just switch off because things get hard or unhealthy.
Instead of fighting your feelings, try to observe them with compassion. You can say, "I feel love for this person right now, and I also feel unsafe." Acknowledging both truths allows you to make decisions based on your safety and reality, rather than trying to force your emotions to align with a simple narrative.
Wisdom in the Middle of Confusion
In times of great emotional fog, we can ask for a clarity that transcends our own understanding. You don't have to have all the answers today. You only need enough light to see the very next step in front of you.
Word of Encouragement: "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him." — James 1:5
Be Patient with Your Process
Healing is not a straight line. Some days the grey areas will feel lighter, and some days they will feel like a heavy fog. Give yourself the grace to be "in-process." You are allowed to take your time to untangle your heart.
You don't have to justify your conflict to anyone. Your journey is yours, and your pace is the right one.
A Safe Space for Your Truth: Are you feeling stuck in the grey? Sometimes, talking through the "both/and" of your situation with a trained advocate can help clear the fog. We are here to listen without judgment.
