Rediscovering the Person You Were Always Meant to Be
In the midst of high-conflict seasons, many of us develop a survival reflex, where we become experts at anticipating what others need, what will keep the peace, and what will keep the waters still. While this is a testament to your strength and adaptability, over time, your own voice can start to feel like a distant echo.
If you feel like you’ve lost touch with your own opinions, tastes, or dreams, know that they haven't disappeared. They are simply waiting for a safe moment to resurface.

Small Steps to Reclaim Yourself
Rediscovering yourself doesn’t have to happen all at once. It happens in the "micro-moments" of your day. Here are a few practical ways to start listening to yourself again:
The Zero-Stake Choice: Start with things that don't affect anyone else. When you buy a coffee, ask yourself: Do I actually like this flavor, or is it just what I always get? When you pick out a shirt, ask: Does this color make me feel good?
The Daily Check-In: Once a day, find thirty seconds of silence. Ask yourself, "How does my body feel right now?" instead of "What do I need to do next?"
Write it Down: If saying your thoughts out loud feels too heavy right now, start a private list. Write down three things you loved as a child—a song, a hobby, a fruit. Remind yourself that these preferences belong to you and no one else.
Practice the "Pause": When someone asks for your opinion, try to pause for three seconds before answering. This small gap gives your true voice a chance to reach your lips before the "peacekeeper" response takes over.
A Foundation of Worth
It is easy to believe the lie that your voice doesn't matter or that your opinions are a burden. But the truth is that you were created with specific intentions. Your quirks, your likes, and your "no’s" are part of a divine design.
Word of Encouragement: "I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well." — Psalm 139:14
You are not a background character in your own life. You are the marvelous work of a Creator who values your spirit. Today, give yourself permission to like what you like, feel what you feel, and speak your truth—even if it’s just in a whisper to yourself.
A Note on Safety: If you are reading this and feel that expressing your opinion puts you at risk, please trust your intuition. You can practice these steps internally until you are in a space where it is safe to express them externally. We are here to help you find that safe space.
